Luckily for the first-time visitor, all of the classic Parisian sights lie within an hour’s walk of each other, making an easy day’s stroll around the city centre the ideal way to spend your day. Start off at the Arc de Triomphe and walk south for just 25 minutes before hitting the Eiffel Tower. Head east along the Seine, stopping for coffee and croissants at one of the sprawling streetside cafes. After a visit to the Musée D’Orsay, continue east for the Notre Dame and beatnik bookshop Shakespeare and Company before crossing the river to the Louvre.

For the Old-timer – Further Out

If you’ve already got the traditional sights under your belt, try these other beautiful spots just north of the city centre. The streets around the Moulin Rouge are great for hunting down alternative shops, while the nearby Sacré-Cœur provides a welcome green respite. Head further east to the area around Canal Saint-Martin for an authentic local experience, with indie shops, eateries and the buzzing Marché Saint-Martin food market. Finish your trip at the stunning Parc des Buttes Chaumont for incredible views of Temple Sybille.

For the Weekender – Relax

While the French capital is abuzz with things to do, it’s also a beautiful setting to sit back and relax for a quiet weekend away. From strolling the small shopping streets in Montparnasse to simply tasting local delicacies from the Aligre Market or Marché Bastille, a lazy day in Paris is never a day wasted. After a slow wander in the Jardin des Plantes or Jardin du Luxembourg, enjoy a glass of red wine on a sunset boat ride along the Seine to enjoy the sights without the crowds.
