When you sail across the North Sea from Hull to either Rotterdam or Zeebrugge, you’ll have time to enjoy two delicious meals. Due to being overnight routes, you’ll be on board for both dinner and breakfast when you travel to the Netherlands or Belgium, so you can start and end your journey with some tasty food.
There are two restaurants to choose from on our North Sea ships, The Brasserie and The Kitchen, and here we share the differences between them and what you can expect from each one.
What are the two restaurants like?
The main difference between The Brasserie and The Kitchen is that The Brasserie is an a la carte restaurant and The Kitchen is an all-you-can-eat buffet. So, when you dine in The Brasserie you will have a menu to choose from and someone will come to take your order, whereas you help yourself to whatever you like, and as much as you like, when you eat in The Kitchen.
When it comes to atmosphere, The Brasserie feels more formal whereas The Kitchen has a laid-back, relaxed vibe. Both restaurants boast sea views and a variety of table sizes to suit your requirements, plus great options for kids if you’re travelling with little ones.
What’s for dinner?
The best way to start your ferry crossing is with a good meal, and you’ll find this no matter which restaurant you decide to dine in. If you opt for The Brasserie, you can begin your meal with one of a number of fantastic starters, including ham hock terrine, smoked salmon, and the choice of a meaty or veggie sharing platter.
Follow this with a main course from the grill, such as a steak or a burger, a delicious fish option, or one of an assortment of vegetarian or vegan options, which include white bean cassoulet and a tasty halloumi burger. To complete your meal, tuck into a luxury dessert. We particularly love the lemon tart and the fresh summer pudding!
You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing what to eat in The Kitchen, as it boasts loads of different flavours from around the world, and unlimited soft drinks too. Start your meal with one of a range of soups and salads, move onto a main course of curry, ribs, or a roast dinner among other options, and remember to leave plenty of room for dessert: a fantastic selection of cakes and other sweet treats.
How about breakfast?
It’s important that you fill yourself up with a tasty breakfast before you head off on your European adventure and, as with dinner, there’s lots to choose from.
Breakfast in The Brasserie offers the choice of a Full English breakfast, with a veggie option also available, a continental basket full of bread, meat and cheese, vegan porridge, or salmon with smashed avocado on toast. There’s also a variety of hot drinks and juices to choose from, and children can enjoy a mini fry-up.
As you might expect, The Kitchen has every breakfast option that you can think of. As well as your traditional Full English items, you’ll find pancakes, fresh fruit, pastries, and much more, and you can mix and match everything to create your perfect morning meal. Hot drinks are available too, so don’t worry about getting your caffeine fix before you head off to your destination.
We hope that our guide to The Brasserie and The Kitchen has helped you to decide where to eat on board.
