Go Wild at Easter – Loch Lomond

Hunt for Easter eggs and enjoy the beautiful scenery at Loch Lomond.

Set on the banks of Loch Lomond in West Dunbartonshire, the RSPB Loch Lomond Nature Reserve offers guests plenty to see and do throughout the year. However, springtime sees the arrival of longer days, beautiful bluebells, better weather (hopefully), and their fun-packed Go Wild at Easter Event. Just 2.5 hours by car from Cairnryan port, this event is perfect for those visiting via a ferry to Scotland for Easter from Northern Ireland, and is particularly perfect for those who love the great outdoors.

In 2020, this event will be held on the 11th and 12th of April, between 10:30 and 15:30, and will give children the chance to explore this varied nature reserve and enjoy the exciting activities on offer. From creating nature crafts and discovering a multitude of paths to hunting for Easter eggs and enjoying a woodland treasure hunt, this Scottish nature reserve’s Easter event is sure to appeal to children of all ages, especially those who love wildlife. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for the area’s best-loved bird species while you’re there, including osprey, wood warblers, and pink-footed geese!

Cadbury Easter Hunt at Culzean Castle and Country Park – South Ayrshire

Cadbury Easter Hunt at Culzean Castle and Country Park, Scotland
Try to find the golden egg at the Cadbury Easter Hunt at Culzean Castle and Country Park.

Less than an hour’s drive from Cairnryan port is the National Trust for Scotland’s gorgeous Culzean Castle and Country Park. Set in a landscape boasting everything from beaches to woodland, and a clifftop castle, this country park is the perfect place for an Easter egg hunt in Scotland. Running from the 10th to the 13th of April, Culzean Castle and Country Park’s Cadbury egg hunt will lead children in search of a giant golden egg through following trails and solving clues, and will receive a Cadbury treat as a reward. Plus, to be in with a chance of winning a National Trust of Scotland family membership, snap their photo with the golden egg and enter their social competition.

This Easter event also boasts a Toddle Route, which is shorter and perfect for little legs, plus there will be live music between 13:30 and 15:30 on the Saturday (11th) and Sunday (12th). While you’re at the country park, ensure that you explore both the castle and its grounds, as there’s plenty to see. From a swan pond and deer park to two fantastic play areas, the whole family is sure to be entertained during this great Easter event in Scotland.

Easter Eggspress – Angus

Caledonian Railway, Scotland
Join Caledonian Railway’s Easter Eggspress.

If you’re happy to travel further afield from Cairnryan during your Easter visit to Scotland, you might like to book your space aboard the Easter Eggspress in Brechin, Angus. Hosted by the Caledonian Railway, a volunteer-run heritage railway boasting both steam and diesel trains, the Easter Eggspress will run from their station in Brechin to the Bridge of Dun, with a journey time of around an hour. Each passenger will be given an Easter treat, and there will be an Easter competition in which you could win a ticket to return to the railway for their Thomas the Tank Engine event in the summer.

Visitors to the Caledonian Railway Easter Eggspress will also be able to enjoy the miniature railway on Brechin’s platform 1, and the station’s gift shop which offers a selection of railway memorabilia and Thomas the Tank Engine merchandise. There’s also a café at Brechin where you can have lunch, baked goods, and coffee, and a buffet at the Bridge of Dun where you will find sandwiches, snacks, and other refreshments. This truly is a great experience for the whole family, and will be especially exciting for children (and adults!) who love trains.
