If your dog grows concerned when the word “holiday” gets thrown around, get ready for some good news. Whether you’re looking for an active trip or a city break, there are loads of fantastic dog friendly holidays in Europe. From strolling the streets of Belgium to running wild on the beaches of France, here are some of our favourite spots for the whole family.
Dog Friendly Holidays: City breaks
With some simple planning, it’s easy to take your pet on your next city break. Amsterdam is a wonderful short break for the city-loving dog, with trams, buses and the metro allowing any size dog to travel for free. Many restaurants are dog-friendly, and there are plenty of parks to let your pup relax, such as Vondelpark and Flevopark. Bruges is another great city choice, with a car-free centre, green spaces and plenty of hotels catering for pets.
Dog Friendly Holidays: Walking holidays
Shake up your walking ritual with a trip to the stunning Irish countryside. Dublin is a great destination for dog friendly holidays, with numerous fantastic walking routes found just outside the centre. St Anne’s Park has beautiful wooded paths and a designated area for dogs to be let off-leash, while the Irish National War Memorial Gardens also allows pets. The Glens of Antrim in Northern Ireland are also ideal for dog walkers who have travelled via a ferry to Northern Ireland, with the stunning Cranny Falls providing an easy incline for four-legged friends.
Dog Friendly Holidays: Beach holidays
Most beaches on the French coast allow dogs, but often only on a leash. An hour’s drive from Calais, the long South Beach at Stella Plage lets your dog to run free, and many of the surrounding beachside resorts allow pets too. Further west, the Plage des Sables Blancs (White Sand Beach) in Plouharnel is a stunning stretch of coastline loved by locals. Why not rent a dog-friendly caravan and park up at one of the nearby campsites for a night under the stars?
