Want to spend a day relaxing on one of France’s most beautiful beaches?
Prado Beaches – Marseille
10 hours from Calais port by car
One of the best beach holidays in France can be found in Marseille, as this destination offers the chance to combine a relaxing beach holiday with a vibrant city break. Located in the south of France, Marseille boasts lovely weather which is one of the reasons why so many people flock here, and its Prado Beaches provide the perfect place to unwind in the sun.
These three beaches give visitors the choice of sand or shingle, and are surrounded by green spaces which can be enjoyed by both sunbathers and those who want to play games. Active holidaymakers will love the range of activities on offer at the Prado Beaches, including windsurfing, flying kites, and doing yoga. In addition to this, you will find the famous Marseille skate bowl nearby which hosts competitions throughout the year.
The Prado Beaches offer all of the facilities you need for a great beach holiday, such as toilets, showers, cafés, bars, shops, and restaurants. Plus there’s a children’s playground which is sure to distract the kids while you take some time out nearby.
Deauville Beach – Normandy
3 hours from Calais port by car
If you’re looking for a beach holiday in France that comes with plenty of style and glamour, look no further than Deauville Beach in Normandy. Home to impressive hotels, a world-famous casino, designer shops, and art galleries, you’ll certainly feel like one of the elite as you wander around this striking beach resort.
The beach itself is wide and sandy, making it perfect for a spot of sunbathing and people-watching. Settle down on one of the deckchairs (complete with a colourful parasol), take a walk along the red ironwood boardwalk, or borrow a book from the library which is set in a wooden hut. You might also like to take a look at the lovely beach cabins which are named after actors and directors that have visited the area during the American Cinema Festival.
Deauville itself is home to a range of prestigious events that you might like to catch during your beach holiday. Fans of horseracing, golf, and polo will be particularly happy, as these sports are often hosted in this resort. Hoping for ultimate relaxation? Head to the Thalasso Deauville spa which will leave you feeling revitalised and rejuvenated.
Calais Beach – Calais
10 minutes from Calais port by car
The most convenient beach holiday in France is definitely Calais, as you can reach it within minutes of disembarking the ferry. Ideal for both day trips and longer stays, Calais Beach is home to traditional beach huts and sandy stretches, plus it’s in walking distance of the town centre which can be handy when exploring the area.
Calais is a great option for family beach holidays in France too, as it boasts plenty for the whole family to enjoy. Challenge each other to a game of mini-golf, pack up BMXs, skateboards, and rollerblades to use at the skate park, and let younger kids let off steam in the playground. You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to eating and drinking too, just make sure that you don’t leave without ordering freshly caught mussels with French fries.
For something a bit different, walk to the Calais lighthouse and climb the 271 steps to the top. Once you’ve conquered these, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views and lots of great photo opportunities.
