The Peaky Blinders were a real gang founded in the streets of Birmingham between the 1880s and 1910s. The gang emerged from economic deprivation and poor living conditions, which were widespread in England during the 19th century.

Known for their involvement in illegal activities, including bootlegging, smuggling, fraud and sports betting, the Peaky Blinders were recognised by their impeccable smart attire and the flat peaked caps they sported. In fact, their name is said to come from the Midlands slang term ‘blinder’, which referred to someone who was well dressed. But did they really hide razor blades in their hats to blind witnesses, as shown in the series? No one really knows.

The newest season of Peaky Blinders certainly took its audience across many locations in the UK, from Scotland to Manchester, Liverpool, Cheshire, Lancashire and more. Curious to know more about Peaky Blinders season six filming locations?

First off, we have Arley Hall & Gardens located in the village of Arley, Cheshire, this location was known as Tommy’s Mansion Arrow house in season six. This 19th-century building is currently home to Viscount Ashbrook – the picturesque location was a star of the series and is definitely worth a visit!

Multiple backdrops from season six were shot in the buzzing city of Manchester. The Chinatown area from the series is actually set in Castlefield in Manchester and part of this area was transformed to create the famous Peaky Blinders filming set of Chinatown Café Change opium den as seen in the latest season.

Sets located in lovely Liverpool have made an appearance throughout the series and crop up again in season six of Peaky Blinders. Liverpool is one of the locations that has been home to many of the scenes shot for the series. From the Fascist Rally venue, which is actually St George’s Hall, to Alfie Solomon’s Camden Warehouse, which made use of an empty rum distillery located in Liverpool. Peaky Blinders Filming Locations in Liverpool and the North West of England

Speaking of Liverpool, several towns in the Northwest of England were chosen as Peaky Blinders filming locations in the UK, thanks to their industrial character and historic canal networks. You may recognise some streets in Liverpool like the Stanley Dock area! Many warehouses in Liverpool were used to store imported goods such as rum and tobacco and are now UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Some of the Manchester filming locations included town halls in and around Manchester and Stockport. This was for their beautifully preserved interiors and distinctive Victorian facades, with carved stones and high towers. The Stockport Plaza theatre serves as a filming location in the last episode of the fifth season for the rally organised by Oswald Mosley.

Peaky Blinders Filming Locations in Yorkshire

About an hour’s drive from the port of Hull, the city of Leeds and the region of West Yorkshire host several important Peaky Blinders filming locations: you will instantly spot buildings and streets featured in the series!

Many of the scenes in this area were shot on the cobbled streets of central Leeds, a city known for its Victorian architecture. The Leeds Town Hall, built in the 1850s, serves as the art gallery in the series, while the luxurious City Varieties Theatre is also featured in several episodes. Both are open for the public to visit today and nearby in Bradford, the imposing Salts Mill complex was used as the backdrop for the industrial district in Peaky Blinders.

Finally, most of the scenes featuring train travel were filmed on the eight-kilometre-old Keighley and Worth Valley railway line. You can easily reach Keighley station from Leeds to board a steam train and live your Tommy Shelby fantasy!

Birmingham, a major industrial and commercial hub, is at the heart of the Peaky Blinders story. The city also organises guided tours on foot and by bus, to take you on a real-life trail that the gang once patrolled.
