Travel to France with P&O Ferries for the Ryder Cup 2018

This year the Ryder Cup takes place in continental Europe for just the second time in its 42-tournament history. The quiet town of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, found around 30km southwest of Paris, welcomes the best European and American players between 25-30 September.

This year’s event offers golf lovers a golden opportunity to see Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and many other household names playing just across the channel – so why not take the whole gang for a weekend to remember? This autumn, you can take up to nine passengers to witness the Ryder Cup 2018 for just £70 return – and perhaps play a few holes yourself while you’re out there.

What to expect at the Ryder Cup 2018

While the first round of the Ryder Cup 2018 commences at Le Golf National on 28 September, the whole week functions as a lively celebration of the game. Starting with player practice sessions on the 25th, fans get the chance to hone their own skills with the greats the next day, with retired players and captains providing clinics, Q&As and lessons for all ages. The opening ceremony takes place at 5pm on the 27th, before play begins in full on Friday 28th and the winning team lifts the famous trophy on Sunday 30th.

Getting to Le Golf National from Calais

Conveniently located close to the City of Lights, Le Golf National is also easily accessible for both drivers and foot passengers from our Calais port.

If you’re bringing your own vehicle, the venue is just over three hours’ drive away from Calais. However, road closures are scheduled locally for the duration of the tournament, so you might consider staying in Paris for your trip and making use of the transport options available for attendees from the City of Lights.

Le Golf National on foot or by bicycle

Foot passengers and cyclists can get to Paris from Calais in under two hours by train – then head to the same onwards travel options to Le Golf National. If you are bringing a bicycle, be sure to check if an advanced reservation is needed to bring it on board the local trains.

The close proximity of Paris means you’ll never be bored even when the players pack up for the evening. Relax after a long day on the course with the comforts of world-class fine dining, award-winning theatre shows or even just a cosy hotel room with a view over the City of Lights.

If you get the golfing bug while you’re watching, why not stop off for a round at the Golf Du Bois De Boulogne – or even a spot of mini golf with the little ones? The course is just a short drive or cycle, or about an hours’ scenic walk if you fancy stretching your legs, from the Eiffel Tower. If you’re planning to stay in France a little longer after the tournament, Le Golf National is back open for public play from Saturday 6 October. You’re best advised to book ahead.

Book a three or five-day break from Dover to Calais and you can take a car with up to nine passengers from £70 return.
